Caries often start in the interdental spaces between teeth because they are difficult for toothbrushes to reach. Once caries reach a certain stage, drilling is needed, and healthy tooth structure is destroyed in the process.

If interproximal caries are detected early, Icon Proximal enables treatment without drilling and without the unnecessary loss of healthy tooth structure. Thanks to microinvasive infiltration with a highly fluid plastic, caries can be stopped gently before invasive treatment becomes necessary.

Caries infiltration with Icon fills the gap between
prophylaxis and filling, while also optically blending
in the lesion with the healthy enamel.

AN INGENIOUSLY SIMPLE PRINCIPLE
The infiltration method is simple: After pre-treatment
with Icon Etch, a highly fluid resin (Icon Infiltrant) is
applied to the affected area. Capillary action draws the
infiltrant deep into the porous enamel, and it is then
light-cured. This blocks the penetration of cariogenic
acids. The incipient caries can be stopped quickly and
without drilling or anesthesia.
Healthy tooth structure is preserved.
